Frequently asked questions
Where is my data stored?
Only on your device, in a database file inside the app's private directory. There is no server, no account and no network access. Details in the privacy policy.
How do I back up my data or move to a new device?
Settings → Backup. The app writes a file containing everything and hands it to the system share sheet. Put it in iCloud, mail it to yourself or save it to Files. On the new device, same place, then import backup.
The rest timer doesn't notify me.
The end-of-rest alert is off by default; turn it on under Settings → Training. Only then does the app ask for notification permission. If nothing arrives after that, check iOS Settings → Notifications → OpenGains. A Focus mode such as “Do Not Disturb” holds notifications back.
Camera or photo access isn't working.
The app only asks when you take the first photo. If you declined back then, you can grant it again under iOS Settings → OpenGains. Photos of gym machines never leave your device.
Sharing to Instagram doesn't work.
“To Instagram Stories” requires the Instagram app to be installed. If it isn't, or if it blocks the deep link, OpenGains falls back to the normal share sheet. From there you can send the image anywhere or save it to your photo library.
How do I delete all my data?
Settings → Reset all data deletes everything. Deleting the app removes all data as well, since nothing is stored off-device. Neither can be undone, so write a backup first.
Does the app cost anything? Are there in-app purchases?
No. OpenGains is free, released under the MIT license, and has no in-app purchases, no subscriptions and no ads.
